Have you ever asked yourself, “Is this even worth it?”
The hours spent writing.
The money invested.
The energy poured into a book that feels invisible.
The obedience that feels costly… and the harvest that feels delayed.
If you’re a Christian author feeling weary and discouraged, I want you to know: you are not alone, and you are not unseen.
The call to write for the Kingdom isn’t always logical in the eyes of the world. It may not always make financial sense. It may not lead to bestsellers or viral moments. But your obedience is not in vain.
The Cost of Yes
In John 12, we read the story of Mary anointing Jesus’ feet with a jar of expensive perfume. Judas objected, saying the money could’ve been used to feed the poor. From a practical standpoint, he wasn’t wrong. But Mary wasn’t acting from logic—she was moved by love.
She gave her best, not because it made sense, but because Jesus was worth it.
Your writing is an offering. Whether you’re seeing fruit or still waiting on the harvest, God sees every act of obedience. Every late night. Every word written in faith. Every dollar spent on editing or marketing. Every launch that didn’t quite launch. None of it is wasted.
A Kingdom Return on Investment
The world looks for quick results. But heaven values faithful sowing.
Galatians 6:7-9 says God will not be mocked. What you sow in obedience, He will bless in His time. That’s a sovereign promise.
The Passion Translation puts it like this:
And don’t allow yourselves to be weary in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming! (Galatians 6:9)
So don’t let discouragement write the ending to your story.
Keep writing.
Keep sowing.
Keep saying yes.
There is a return on this investment—eternal and unseen by many, but known fully by the One who called you.
You Are Not Wasting Time—You Are Worshiping
Like Mary, let your writing come from a place of intimacy, not obligation. Let it be poured out with love, not fear. And remember, just because it doesn’t make worldly sense, doesn’t mean it isn’t deeply spiritual.
You are a Kingdom scribe. Your obedience matters.
And your harvest is coming.
Don’t give up.
