5 Reasons Why Your Christian Non-Fiction Book Isn't Selling

You didn’t just write a book—you answered a call.

You said “yes” to God, poured your heart into the message, and took the leap to publish. So why does it feel like your book is invisible?

Let’s be real: writing a book is one act of obedience. But getting that book into the hands of the people who need it? That’s another part of the calling—and it often gets overlooked.

If you’ve been wondering why your Christian book isn’t flying off the shelves, here are 5 major reasons why it may not be selling—and the practical, faith-filled solutions that can turn things around.

🚫 1. You’re Not Clear on Who Your Book Is For

The Issue:
“Everyone” is not a target audience. If you're trying to reach every Christian, you’re likely reaching no one in particular.

The Fix:
Narrow it down. Ask yourself: Who exactly is struggling with what I wrote about? Define your ideal reader by age, season of life, spiritual maturity, and pain point. Write (and market) directly to them.

🚫 2. Your Message Isn’t Clear

The Issue:
If your title, subtitle, or book description don’t clearly show what problem the book solves or what transformation it offers, readers will scroll right past it.

The Fix:
Be specific and speak to the felt need. Don’t be afraid of being direct. Ask yourself: What breakthrough does my reader walk away with?

🚫 3. You Don’t Have a Marketing Strategy (You’re Just Hoping It Sells)

The Issue:
Many Christian authors feel uncomfortable “promoting” their work, believing it’s more spiritual to let it “speak for itself.”

The Fix:
Marketing is ministry when done from the right heart. Share your story. Show up online. Build an email list. Post with purpose. Consistent visibility builds trust, and trust moves books.

🚫 4. You’re Not Building Visibility

The Issue:
People can’t buy what they don’t know exists.

The Fix:
Show up. Whether it’s social media, podcast interviews, live events, or YouTube—visibility matters. You don’t need a massive platform; you need a consistent message and real connection.

🚫 5. You’re Missing Community and Collaboration

The Issue:
Trying to sell your book all alone is exhausting—and limits your reach. Many authors work in isolation without tapping into community support or partnerships.

The Fix:
Build genuine relationships with other authors, podcasters, ministries, and influencers who serve a similar audience.

👥 Collaborate on giveaways, podcasts, guest blogs, live chats, and events.
👥 Share each other’s work and celebrate wins together.
Kingdom impact is multiplied when we work together, not apart.

🙌 An Opportunity to Build Your Platform the Right Way

Why join?

  • You only need to write one chapter (4,000 words) instead of an entire book.
  • You’ll gain exposure to a wider audience by contributing alongside other authors.
  • It’s a fantastic way to establish yourself as an authority in your niche and expand your platform.

💡 Final Thoughts

My hope in sharing these regrets is that you can learn from my experience and take a more strategic, intentional approach to your writing journey. Writing a book is a powerful calling—but it requires wisdom, preparation, and a clear focus to maximise its impact.
