Count the Cost, But Do Not Carry the Burden

Have you ever felt the Holy Spirit prompting you to write a book? That gentle (or maybe not-so-gentle) nudge that says, “There’s a message inside you that needs to be shared”?

If that’s you—welcome. You’re not alone. But before you open a fresh notebook or start typing Chapter One, I want to encourage you with this: Count the cost, but do not carry the burden.

Count the Cost – Wisdom from Jesus

In Luke 14:28, Jesus says:

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?”

This principle applies beautifully to the writing journey. Writing a book isn't just about inspiration—it's about intentionality. There are costs involved—financially, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually.

The cost of finances: Editing, cover design, formatting, publishing, marketing—these all require investment.

The cost of time: Time away from other commitments, quiet time to hear from the Lord, the discipline to write consistently.

The cost of relationships: Writing may require boundaries, clarity, and sometimes even uncomfortable conversations with loved ones or collaborators.

Do Not Carry the Burden – A Yoke That Fits You

But here’s the good news: You are not called to carry this alone. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says:

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest... For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”

That word “easy” in Greek means fit for you—tailor-made. It’s not heavy, it’s not sharp—it’s pleasant and purpose-filled.

When we partner with Jesus in the writing process, we’re not striving in our own strength. He gives grace, guidance, and rest. That’s why it’s so important to plan with Him, not just for Him.
