Am I called to write?

You are a unique expression of the Father's heart. If you have any desire to write, I believe it has been wired into you before you were even born. The question is, do YOU believe that you are called to write?

You must believe it with all your heart. There will be times when the going gets tough. When you carry a message of value, you can bet on the fact that you will get some resistance.

The people around you may question whether all the time, resources, and finances you are spending on this project are worth it. There will be times when you may ask that same question. That's why it is so important to resolve this matter once and for all, in your heart.

Jesus, our great example

Jesus knew exactly who He was, and what He was about. When Jesus announced that He was the light of the world, the religious leaders did not like it. Jesus didn't pay them much attention, but simply said:

Just because I am the one making these claims doesn’t mean they’re invalid. For I absolutely know who I am, where I’ve come from, and where I’m going. (John 8:14 TPT)

You can absolutely know that you are the light of the world. Jesus said so. Not just of himself, but also of you (Matt 5:14). If there is a message burning in your heart, then you are absolutely called to share it.

The very first message that Jesus ever preached was from Isaiah 61 - He was making a declaration of who He was.

What is true of Jesus's calling in Isaiah 61, is also true of you. So let's unpack it.

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor... (Isaiah 61:1 TPT)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon you...

Apart from the Spirit of the Lord, we can’t do anything of eternal value. I recognise that I can often run ahead when I should rather walk in step with the Spirit; allowing Him to lead and guide my every step, every day, and in everything I do. Whether I am sitting down to write, spending time with my family, cleaning the house, educating my kids, or planning my social media marketing. He wants to be part of it all. The Spirit of the Lord is upon you. Engage Him in everything you do, especially as you write your book.

You are anointed...

Do you sometimes look around at other people, see the amazing things they are doing, and wonder if your message carries any weight or value at all? You might be familiar with the famous quote from Theodore Roosevelt: “Comparison is the thief of joy.” When we start comparing what we are doing with everyone else’s achievements, we lose the joy of what we set out to do in the first place. Jesus went to the cross for the joy set before Him - you and me! How do we stop comparing ourselves to other people? By focusing on what we were anointed to do. Yes, my friend, YOU are anointed! Not just everyone around you. YOU are anointed!

You have good tidings for poor people...

Jesus was very clear on the message He was carrying. His message was about freedom and acceptance. He also knew who the message was for; the hopeless, the broken-hearted, and those imprisoned by their wrong beliefs. It is so important to know whom we are called to reach. You may be surprised by this, but you are not called to reach everyone. Your message certainly will not be understood or received by everyone. This is fine. I know it’s not a comfortable idea to digest, but it is completely true. Jesus said He absolutely knew who He was, where He came from, and where He was going while He was on His assignment (John 4:18). The Pharisees did not understand his assignment, but the woman caught in adultery did. At the end of the day, it is not really about the WHY as much as it is about the WHO.

Where do you go from here?

Once you understand what you carry and who you are called to reach, it is important to take action. It is time to start writing the good tidings for poor people. Someone is sitting in a place of darkness, waiting for you to shine your light and show them that they belong to the Kingdom.
